Book Club
The Wellesley Book Club was formed in April of 1997. It meets monthly, typically the last Wednesday of the month, in members' homes in South Florida. Books are chosen by members based on what they've read and enjoyed, or read and been intrigued by and want to discuss with the group. Past choices include best-sellers ( Angela's Ashes, A Civil Action), classics (Dante's Inferno, Tolstoy's Resurrection, Willa Cather's Death Comes For The Archbishop), and a grab-bag of other well-written, thought-provoking, even bizarre works of both fiction and non-fiction (Angela Carter's Saints & Strangers, Pat Barker's Regeneration, Martha Cooley's The Archivist, Anne Fadiman's The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, Ian McEwan's Amsterdam, Robert Kaplan's The Ends of the Earth, to name just a few). Currently there are about 10 members on the book club's email list, which provides notices of meeting dates, locations and book choices. Typical turnout for meetings is about 5 to 7 people; there are some hard-core "faithfuls" who make almost every meeting, and many who attend just a few times a year. Everyone is welcome: the only requirement is to have read the book! To be added to the list, please email Nancy Harter. (Please include Nancy's name in the subject line of your email.)
